The Austin Community Family Center (ACFC) was formed in 2015 and is located in the historic Austin YMCA building at 501 North Central Avenue in Chicago, IL. The organization was born from an earlier community center with a similar mission.
In revitalizing our mission, one of our primary goals is to garner recognition within the Austin community as a space where people can participate in various programs and access a wide range of services.
Helping to build this foundation was our previous and founding board members. They played a significant role in forming our mission and vision and supporting ACFC's transition into 501(c)3 tax-exempt nonprofit status in December 2017.
With the help of Alderman Emma Mitts of the 37th Ward and other community stakeholders, new life was breathed into the old YMCA building. Currently, it houses Austin Community Family Center (ACFC), and Single Room Housing Assistance Corporation (SRHAC), a City and HUD founded 501(c)3 agency.
Since their inception on-site, these two entities have served and continue to help hundreds of disadvantaged individuals. These include low-income and homeless adults and youth, former offenders, and many families.
